Students become young architects and engineers working together to create their own model city neighborhood! Recycled objects will transform into building materials as students exercise their ingenuity and resourcefulness. We will learn how urban planners design cities, what considerations are important, and how a design blueprint becomes a real building. Students will explore the principles of engineering and design, urban architecture, model-making techniques, and creative problem-solving as they work toward a common goal: build a city that meets the needs and wants of its inhabitants. We will consider the role of a city’s government, its resources, infrastructure, and impact on the environment. We will look at sustainable development and ‘green cities’ as students innovate ways to create environmentally responsible solutions to their city’s challenges. This experience will culminate with a child-led tour of the city for families to enjoy.
